Sony World Photography Awards 2023 – A Glimpse Of The Magnificent Photographs
The Sony World Photography Awards is one of the most prestigious photography awards in the world, and the 2023 edition just came to an end. An incredible number of photographers from all over the world submitted their entries, and the final selection of winning photographs is simply breathtaking!
The competition is divided into four categories: professional, open, youth, and student. Each category has its own subcategories, and the overall winning photograph is selected from the four main divisions.
The professional category is for professional photographers who have a minimum of five years experience in the field. It is divided into nine subcategories, including Architecture, Landscape, Wildlife, Portraiture, and Travel.
The open category is for amateur photographers. It is divided into ten subcategories, including Nature, Sport, and Street Photography.
The youth category is for photographers aged between 10 and 19. It is divided into three subcategories, including Landscape, People, and Wildlife.
The student category is for photographers aged between 18 and 30. It is divided into three subcategories, including Landscape, People, and Wildlife.
The Winning Photographs
The overall winning photograph for 2023 was taken by German photographer, Jan Schlegel, and is titled “The Great Migration”. It depicts a herd of wildebeest crossing the Mara River in Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve.
The other winning photographs are equally stunning. The professional category winners include images of the night sky, a closeup of a tiger, and a breathtaking landscape of the Dolomites. The open category winners feature photographs of a skater in motion, a snowy owl, and a vibrant cityscape. The youth category winners include a portrait of a girl and her pet donkey, a surfer in a tropical paradise, and a stunning shot of a red fox. The student category winners showcase a photo of a family in Korea, an image of a cyclist on a cobblestone street, and a portrait of a child in a field of flowers.
